Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of an entrepreneur really looks like? Well, rather than being all sunshine and rainbows, it’s actually a lot of nitty-gritty, petty work. Sure, we have the big, beautiful moments once a week or so, but the rest of my time is spent pouring over bills, continually preparing or managing gear, working on edits, bookkeeping, social media, and more. Just like every other job, mine can get mundane. But throughout my time as an entrepreneur, I’ve stumbled upon three surprising things that help me thrive in my business. It’s my hope that this peek behind the curtain can inspire you to find your own productivity hacks (or share these ones) to help you thrive, wherever you are.
All the Planners
As you might already know, I’m a planner-kinda girl. I love me a notebook (reality: a stack of notebooks) and a bucket full of pens and pencils. But all of these items really do help me on a daily basis. I have a yearly goal planner that helps me focus on a quarterly or yearly big goal, a daily-monthly planner that keeps all of the deadlines and schedules in order, a weekly planner that I use to manage my home and business responsibilities, and a good ole’ plain notebook for a (sometimes daily) brain dump. These planners keep me thriving. Instead of holding all that info in my brain (ouch), I’m always putting things down on paper.
Canva + Plann
Social media can be overwhelming. In all honesty, I don’t do as well as I probably should in this aspect of my business, but I do the best I can. (And that’s good enough for me.) Something that truly helps me on a daily basis is using both Canva and Plann. These apps help me organize, create, plan, and schedule my social media posts. Anything that simplifies and streamlines my business will in turn help me thrive, and these apps are super helpful with that! I highly recommend them to any fellow photographers!
Walking Treadmill / Standing Desk
And last on the list of items that help me thrive in my business are my walking treadmill and standing desk. Besides a wedding day, so much of my work is sedentary. Sometimes my body can ache from all of the sitting (which feels a bit ridiculous, but it’s the unfortunate truth). My purchase of a walking treadmill and a standing desk has been so helpful to my overall health and well-being. (Side note: it’s much harder to walk and work than it seems, so I’m still working out the kinks in using this to its full potential.)
There you have it! Three surprising things that help me thrive in business. I hope that this not only gives you a peek into my world but also provides some inspiration for items you (maybe) haven’t thought of before.
