HEY, IT'S EMILY

Kayla and Collin’s wedding at The Tinsmith

Kayla and Collin planned a beautiful, classic, black-and-white-themed wedding at The Tinsmith in Madison, Wisconsin. With flowing florals, a trip to the Capitol, and loads of laughter, their day flowed flawlessly. And, oh, that dance party! You’ll want to take a peek at the band-induced dancing at the end of the evening.

Kayla and Collin met through mutual friends and began chatting together online. After a time, they definitely wanted to meet in person, so Collin dropped coffee at her door one morning before work. As he recalls, “I was like like a little kid on Christmas morning, I was filled with excitement and itching for the next time I was able to see her.”

They both knew very quickly that this was “IT.” And watching them together, it’s evident that they truly are best friends. One of the things they were most excited about when it came to their wedding day was “finally making my favorite human of all time, my FOREVER.”

And that’s what they did. With style and joy.

The Proposal

Kayla: Collin and I had planned a weekend getaway in Milwaukee which included one night being at the Morgan Wallen concert. We booked a stay at The Pfister and made plans to get dinner and make a weekend out of it. Within the weeks prior there were little comments he would make that gave me some hope our weekend away could be the one where we get engaged! Collin made sure I picked a good nail color, didn’t use too much purple shampoo, and had a nice outfit for the night of. When we checked in I started to get ready and do my hair and makeup. At this point I could tell Collin was a bit nervous! We got to dinner and sat at a table near the bar while we waited for our table. We got a drink and Collin kept insisting we go outside to take a picture. Usually I would be all for this but we had already gotten a drink and were waiting for them to grab us for our table. Little did I know I ruined his plan.

Collin: Thursday the 13th, the day I knew I was officially going to have my best friend by my side for the rest of my life. I had worked from home that morning before we had headed down to Milwaukee for the weekend. I had to go pick up the ring that morning in Fond du Lac at C.W. Smith as I couldn’t have it in the house or else she would have found it. As I was getting ready, I was so nervous trying to find a way to put this bulky box in my pants. I was able to hide it with my hand from the drive from the hotel to the Harbor House where we had dinner reservations. I was persistent on getting a photo ahead of time, but the one time I wanted a photo she was stubborn and wanted to wait until after dinner. So, as we waited for dinner and I still had the box in my pocket; my heart was still beating tremendously fast.

During the dinner, we began to notice dozens of police lights shining over the harbor. Little did we know that a fisherman found a body, so that is something we will never forget. Dinner finally ended and I bolted to the outside and had her give the phone to someone and when she turned around, I was down on one knee. I still don’t think she said yes 😉

Kayla: As we were at dinner our waitress asked us a few times if we were celebrating something, which seemed off after the first time we had said no. As Collin said below there was a whole scene going on outside while we were at dinner so I was very entertained by that. Once we were done eating, a round of champagne and a card showed up at our table. Turns out his boss had paid for our dinner and wrote in the card to have a fun weekend. I was nervous to pick up the card cause at this point I was sure something was about to happen or should’ve happened already. For all I knew the card could’ve said congratulations so I had Collin read it. We headed outside and had the host take a picture of us. Before I knew it Collin was down on one knee and from there I blacked out. I don’t think it fully hit me that I was engaged until I FaceTimed my Mom to show her and then started bawling!

A Few of Our Favorite Things

We have to admit – this is our first groom-planned wedding. Collin did an incredible job managing the details of the day, and we loved the fact that Kayla just had to show up on her wedding day. (And wow, did she look amazing, right?!)

The entire day was full of fun and laughter, ending with a wildly fun dance, spurred on by the amazing Spicy Tie Band.

Peep a few of our favorite moments below.
