HEY, IT'S EMILY

Amanda & Dirk’s New Year’s Eve Wedding was filled with so much warmth, love, and beauty that the chilly Wisconsin winter didn’t phase them at all. It was a day that for many didn’t seem like it would ever come. Dirk himself testified to the fact that, before Amanda, marriage was never in his future. Isn’t it funny how the right person just changes everything? And there is no doubt that Amanda & Dirk are made for each other. As Emily Bronte’s famous quote goes, “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” It’s written in the way looks at her, and the way she knowingly smiles.

In between the ceremony at St. Leonard Catholic Church and their wedding reception at Marriott Milwaukee West, we stopped by Minooka Park where John found the absolute best place for taking the wedding party photos. Even though it was really (really) cold, all of these beautiful people smiled the whole time! Amanda looked amazing in her elegant dress, and Dirk took on the role of James Bond for the night, looking handsome and suave. We love, love, LOVE the beautiful winter photos we got of the two of them right around sunset. That gorgeous light + these two beauties = two happy cameras!!

Personally, I couldn’t keep my tears inside for two occasions – the speeches, and the father-daughter & mother-son dances. All of the speeches at Amanda & Dirk’s New Year’s Eve wedding reception were touching – filled with crazy memories, lots of laughs, and those sweet and tender moments. One of the stories that still stands out to me was the one told by Dirk’s sister, Gretchen. She shared a memory of their childhood that had to do with cookies! Dirk would always take the broken cookie. Knowing that this cookie was smaller and would not last as long as the whole cookie, he would still choose the broken cookie just to make his sister happy. I loved this simple, sweet memory and how both Amanda & Dirk still live up to the character that was shared in that story. They are both giving people who love to make others happy. The New Year’s Eve wedding celebration they put on was no exception!

In the words of Gretchen, “Cheers to Amanda & Dirk, with many years of sharing the broken cookie”!
