The clouds were a constant filter on Kathryn and Logan’s wedding day, and nobody minded. A mild gray September sky sat over Elkhart Lake from morning to evening, with a steady breeze coming off the water at The Osthoff Resort. It kept 200-plus guests cool and kept the light soft from the first look to the last dance. (We certainly didn’t mind the perfect lighting.)
Their Osthoff Resort wedding in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, was relaxed, easy, and full of people who clearly adore them. And for us, this one was a little different. Kathryn is John’s cousin, so we had family on both sides of the camera.

It started with a rose sent over the internet. Kathryn sent it to Logan, and their first date was a Sunday night dinner at Fratellos in Appleton. Sunday nights happen to be Kathryn’s favorite, so when her friends and family found out she was willing to give up her Sunday night to meet Logan, they knew it must’ve been special. Since then, a lot of great moments (and meals) have followed.
For Logan, it clicked in Idaho. They were at the fifth of six weddings they went to over four straight weekends, and that trip held their first mountain hike together, time with some of his closest friends, and his birthday out West. Kathryn had a feeling after the very first date, and everything just kept confirming it.
They describe themselves as comfortable and easy, somewhere between routine-oriented and “spastically spontaneous.” Slow mornings, cooking together, walks with the dogs, a lot of laughing.

Logan proposed on the coldest day of the year, on the trail where they’d spent countless hours walking the dogs and getting to know each other. Kathryn had a feeling it was coming, but she was still surprised when he got down on one knee, after laying a glove down between his knee and the snow… Romantic and practical at the same time.

A bagpiper at the first look. Kathryn and Logan saw each other for the first time on the resort grounds, and a surprise bagpiper was playing while they did. Kathryn surprised Logan with it because he originally wanted a bagpiper but she said no. His face said it all when he heard that bagpiper piping.
A 20-pound wheel of cheese. Some couples pour sand. Kathryn and Logan brought a 20-pound wheel of cheese into their unity ceremony by the lake. This is Wisconsin, after all. It was the start of the entire day.
Sheboygan Marsh Tower. After the ceremony and wedding party photos, the two of them slipped away to Sheboygan Marsh Tower before cocktail hour. Just them, a few quiet minutes, and a whole lot of marsh in every direction before heading back to their guests.
Dad’s ’67 Mustang. Kathryn’s dad brought his ’67 Mustang to the Osthoff for photos. It added for some fun photo moments throughout the evening.
Grandpa and his cane. Later that night, after their first dance to George Strait’s “River of Love,” Kathryn’s grandpa threw his cane down on the dance floor and kept dancing without it. We won’t forget that one; Grandpa was a highlight of the night!

This was our first real wedding at The Osthoff, and it’s easy to see why couples choose it. Everything happened on one property. They both got ready at the resort, the ceremony was steps from the water, and the reception was right inside. With a guest list over 200, that kind of ease is important for couples planning a wedding.
The lakefront is the highlight. We did family and wedding party photos along the water, and the overcast sky kept the light even with no harsh glare off the lake. If you’re planning a wedding at The Osthoff and the forecast looks cloudy, don’t panic. It works in your favor here.
