Michelle and Tristan’s Milwaukee wedding at The Ivy House

Michelle and Tristan flew across the country from New York City to host friends and family in Milwaukee for their Ivy House wedding. The sun was shining, and it turned out to be one of the most beautiful April days of the year. Their outdoor ceremony was filled with beautiful, touching moments, such as surprise readings (their friends chose the readings, and Michelle & Tristan heard them for the first time while standing together during the ceremony) and officiating by Michelle’s father.

The fun didn’t stop there, though. With a beautiful cocktail hour in The Ivy House courtyard, the friends and family members who had come from near and far were able to soak up the joy and sunshine that was present in plenty.

How They Met

According to Michelle, she and Tristan met the way “all modern romances begin, once upon a time on a dating app!” It all started with some healthy bantering about Iowa versus Nebraska. Their first date occurred at a bar in midtown, and as Tristan recalls: “we hung out in the back of a mostly empty bar, and I remember her being one of the first people I’d met in a while that genuinely made me laugh, and I couldn’t wait to see her again.”

The Proposal

From Tristan: “I figured out in December that I wanted to relearn the first route we ran in the park and do this on a run through Central Park. After a couple of earlier dates fell through, we finally went for the run just before sundown on New Year’s, and I told her I’d lead the route that day.

We had to go out of our way to get to the start and she almost immediately said the route was terrible (which was too funny). About 4 miles in, I asked to stop for a breather and we went to look around the Blockhouse in the North Woods. I told her she’d shown me this building on our first run together, and that I thought it was so cool it was hidden back here.

I then told her we’d just run the exact same route from that time, and how I love that she’s shown me so many cool things the whole time we’ve been together. I pulled out the ring and proposed there with a wonderful view of Harlem and the park. The timing gave us amazing lighting as we ran back so we had to stop and take more photos. Perfect run!”

A Few of Our Favorite Things

We loved watching how Michelle and Tristan truly love each other. The ceremony itself was filled with so many beautifully intentional moments, and it was touching. As avid runners, the analogy suits them well: Michelle and Tristan will continue to run the race of life together, cheering each other on and enjoying the adventure.

Enjoy this peek at their beautiful spring wedding day at The Ivy House.
