Kelly and Derek’s wedding day at Surg on the Water was filled with so much love and emotion. Since the day we met Kelly and Derek, we have loved their story and have appreciated their love for each other. These two met at just the right time. They had both ended previous relationships, and Kelly’s best friend Kari (who happens to be Derek’s cousin) knew that she just had to get these two to meet! Once they met for the first time, they realized how right Kari was, and they knew that this would be something special. Kelly’s sweet daughter, Maddy, got to be along for the journey; and Derek knew that he wasn’t just marrying Kelly but he was also becoming a family with Maddy. So when it came time for Derek to propose, he also bought Maddy a ring and asked her too!

Their Surg on the Water wedding day was filled with so many sweet moments. With the amount of love these two have for each other, surrounded by the outpouring of love from their family and friends, this day was something special. We began the day at the Journeyman Kimpton hotel in the Third Ward where they were both getting ready. Kelly and Derek planned an intimate first look moment where they exchanged personalized vows to each other. This moment was more than words can express, and we loved being able to capture the flood of emotions during this time. Although the weather forecast threatened rain, it never happened. So Derek and Kelly were able to have their outdoor ceremony at Surg on the Water overlooking the Third Ward and the Milwaukee River. Kelly’s dad did the officiating for their ceremony, and it the perfect blend of meaning and celebration.

After the ceremony, we headed down to the lakefront for pictures with the bridal party. Following that we headed back to Surg for cocktail hour, wonderfully touching speeches, delicious dinner, and our favorite – sunset photos! Though we didn’t get that golden setting sun, the lighting at this time of day is simply magical regardless of what the weather is doing. Add in these two, and we’re talking major magic happening in front of our cameras! We loved our time walking around, chatting with Kelly and Derek, and watching them love each other beautifully.
